Yes, we’re still alive. Apparently blogging is hard. You have to remember to write stuff that happens. So, here’s some stuff that has happened:
1. Our Anniversary!!
It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since we got married! Well, at this point, I guess it’s been close to a year and a month. In the past year, Matt and I have gotten married, moved to another state (9 hours from my family, 20 hours from his family), gotten a new job, and started law school. Ms. DeHart-Young taught us about life’s major stressors in Psychology freshman year; looks like we were able to experience quite a few of them. And we survived! Not only did we survive, but we came out on top! We’ve made some great new friends, found a wonderful church, and have really enjoyed experiencing life in Texas. Of course, we still really miss our Mississippi friends; we’re making a new year (of marriage) resolution to make more trips to visit old friends!
2. Beach Trip!!
…Which is where we celebrated our anniversary! We had both been looking forward to going to the beach since we returned from our honeymoon. It was a long wait. We drove all the way to North Carolina for a week of much deserved R&R, and it was worth every second of that gosh-awful drive. It was sunny and beautiful and sandy and everything else that’s amazing. We burned and tanned and stuffed ourselves with Dippin Dots (btw…still waiting for the Dots to stop being the ice cream of the future and start being the ice cream of right now, available in the local HEB). We played some kind of beach ping pong (prokadima?) and Matt even taught me how to ride the waves into shore on the boogie board! We were even able to spend some time with Matt’s sweet family, which doesn’t happen nearly as much as it should. It was definitely a successful trip.
The best part about the beach was finally getting there. We had driven all day and night and finally arrived just in time to see the sun rising over the ocean. It was beautiful; the perfect start to the celebration of our first year of marriage. After crashing for a few hours, I woke up to a beautiful display of peonies (which took some serious planning on his part), a fabulous breakfast, and tickets to an outdoor play about the Lost Colony (get it? tickets = paper gift). And yes, we lugged our frozen wedding cake top tier all the way to the beach, and yes, we ate it. And it wasn’t bad! Matt seemed to really enjoy it, but I’m not much into leftovers, much less year-old leftovers. We also enjoyed a bottle of champagne from our wedding day. We even took pictures, which is a rare occurrence!
The most beautiful flowers in the world! What a wonderful surprise from my sweet hubby :) |

Cautiously taking a bite of the year-old strawberry cake. |
The damage. Matt would have kept eating if I had let him, but that cake was far too old to enjoy. |
3. Mississippi!!
And here’s the big news: I’m in Mississippi for a month! I’m living with my parents and working to get some experience and see what this law stuff is all about (better late than never, right?). The opportunity was very last minute, and I count my blessings every single day. Matt is back in Texas with our precious pup, so it’s a little lonely, but I can’t wait to catch up with friends and celebrate one of my BFFs Mallory’s upcoming wedding! Fun times are most definitely ahead what with living with the sister again on the Brown family dog farm. It’s sure to be an eventful month! Maybe some blog posts will follow if I can get with the blogging program.
